The technical foundation

You Cann’t Secure What You Don’t Understand

In cybersecurity, one truth remains constant: you cannot secure what you don’t truly understand. I began my career deep in IT infrastructure — designing networks, configuring enterprise systems, and solving complex operational challenges across generations of technology.

Security threats don’t exist in a vacuum. They exploit misconfigurations, architectural weaknesses, and operational blind spots. Without a genuine understanding of how systems work, how data flows, and how users interact with technology, security becomes reactive rather than proactive.

I hold dual postgraduate and undergraduate qualifications, a portfolio of globally recognized certifications, and active membership in leading professional bodies. My work is guided by one core belief: you cannot secure what you don’t truly understand.

Academic Background

Education

A deliberate combination of technical rigour and business acumen, designed to bridge the gap between the boardroom and the server room.

  • MBA (General) — University of Bedfordshire

  • BSc (Computer Science) — University of Greenwich

Professional Credentials

Certifications

That Shaped My Expertise

Transitioning into cybersecurity leadership required more than technical depth — it demanded strategic insight, governance fluency, and a mature understanding of risk. These certifications were pivotal

CCISO · CISSP · CISA · CISM · CEH · ITIL v3 · Oracle Cloud Security Professional · Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect · Azure Solutions Architect Azure Security Engineer · CCIE R&S (Written) · CCNP (R&S) · CCNP (Voice) · MCP / MCSA / MCSE (Security)

Professional Memberships

ISACA · (ISC)² · EC-Council

Certification Value

What Each Credential Contributes

Certification Value to Cybersecurity Leadership
CCISO
Executive / Governance

Focuses on governance, risk, and executive-level decision-making. Ideal for bridging technical depth with business strategy and board communication.

CISSP
Architecture / Compliance

Offers a broad framework across eight domains — from security architecture to legal compliance. The benchmark for credibility and knowledge breadth.

CISA
Audit / Controls

Sharpens audit and control skills, critical for assessing enterprise security posture and driving continuous improvement programmes.

CISM
Risk / IR

Emphasises risk management and incident response — the two core pillars of any mature, enterprise-grade security programme.

CEH
Offensive Security

Provides offensive security insight, enabling leaders to understand attacker methodology and guide red team and penetration testing strategy.

MBA (General)
Business Acumen

Strengthened the ability to align cybersecurity initiatives with organisational objectives and articulate risk in language that resonates in the boardroom.

Career Trajectory

From Technical Engineer

to Cybersecurity Leader

The transition wasn’t overnight. It was a deliberate, methodical layering of skills, certifications, and lived experience across two decades of enterprise technology.

Foundation

IT Infrastructure & Network Engineering

Designed enterprise networks, configured servers, and built a comprehensive understanding of how systems, data flows, and users interact with technology. Achieved CCIE R&S (Written), CCNP (R&S), CCNP (Voice), and MCSE (Security) — building a technical base few security leaders can match.

Evolution

Cloud Architecture & Security Engineering

Moved from on-premise infrastructure into cloud architecture, earning Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, and Azure Security Engineer certifications. Designed and secured hybrid cloud environments at enterprise scale.

Leadership

Cybersecurity Governance & Strategy

Pursued CCISO, CISSP, CISA, and CISM to formalise the transition from engineer to security strategist. Gained the governance fluency, risk management depth, and business acumen to operate at executive level — bridging technical architecture with organisational strategy.

Today

CISO & vCISO Advisory

Leading enterprise security programmes, mentoring teams, influencing policy, and advising organisations on cybersecurity strategy. The technical foundation never disappears — it becomes the lens through which every strategic decision is made.
